Because we don't have those small coop stores as you mention, Whole Foods is great for me. Fresno, right in the heart of the food basket to the world, still seems to have a hard time getting organics to its local populace. I have a membership to a CSA and love the produce I receive. The CSA sells the same veggies to Whole Foods here in town. I wish more stores carried organic produce. And don't get me started on meats. I will only buy meats from Whole Foods. I don't trust the other stores.

Interesting post! Hopefully you're right. I also hope that rising oil prices and other factors will increase the attractiveness of organics, since organic agriculture requires fewer fossil fuels.

Regarding the previous post on organics, in which one of the comments portrayed the organic movement as being just about health as opposed to social justice, I thought I would point this out:

One of the Organic Consumer Association's main campaigns right now is to "mobilize millions of organic and socially responsible consumers into a powerful force for change, both in the marketplace and in the political arena," by (here's the slogan) "Buy[ing] Organic, Local, Fair-Made." There's also an initiative to link the environmental and peace movement.
